Ambleside with its quaint old pubs, restaurants and teashops, gift shops, churches and house on the bridge lies within Cumbria's Lake District National Park, which totals 855 square miles and attracts visitors from all over the world. The English Lake District and National Park contains sixteen major lakes, numerous tarns, fells, wooded hills and mountains making it a must whilst touring England and ambleside makes the ideal venue for a short break, holiday or vacation.

Whilst in Ambleside why not visit one of its neighbouring delightful and picturesque villages including Coniston and its association with John Ruskin. Hawkshead, with its beautiful church on the hill and school attended by the Lakeland poet William Wordsworth from 1778 to 1787. Wordsworth's Dove Cottage is in the village of Grasmere and Troutbeck, Keswick and Ullwater are all within easy reach of Rothay House.

There is always plenty to do in the English Lake District and several companies operate Lake District scenic tours. The towns of Windermere and Bowness are just down the lake from Ambleside where you can visit the Beatrix Potter Exhibition and meet all the characters from her famous children's stories. Just outside Windermere is the Steamboat Museum, which contains a unique collection of steam, motor and sailing boats and in between Ambleside and Windermere lies Brockhole, the National Park Visitor Centre.
