Aquarium of the Lakes: The UK's leading freshwater aquarium at Lakeside near Newby Bridge can be reached by car following a drive around the lake, or by cruising down Lake Windermere on one of the Lakeland Cruisers.
Armitt Museum: Visitors can see the lives and works of the artists, writers and pioneers who have made Ambleside such an exciting place to be.
Beatrix Potter: The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction at the Old Laundry in Bowness on Windermere is open all year and a magical day out for all the family, young and old - just 10 minutes drive from Rothay House.
Brockhole Visitor Centre: Situated on the A591 between Windermere and Ambleside just 5 minutes drive from Rothay House. The centre, which is on the shores of Lake Windermer is open daily during the spring, summer and autumn but closed part of the winter, however, the grounds and gardens are open all year.
Dove Cottage: Visit the home of the poet William Wordsworth and the Wordsworth Museum, which are situated just south of Grasmere Village on the A591
Hayes Garden World: A short drive from Rothay House finds you at one of Britiain's finest garden centres and a must during any visit to Cumbria. Enjoy the plants and gifts on display or partake in tea or coffee in the cafe.
Kirkstone Galleries: The Kirkstone Gallery and Chester's Coffee Shop situated on the banks of the River Brathay at Skelwith Bridge near Ambleside makes an ideal venue whatever the weather.
Rheged: The Upland Kingdom Discovery Centre named after Cumbria's Celtic Kingdom and just a ½ hour drive from Rothay House - enjoy the countryside during your drive through the northern Lake District.
Rhydal Mount & Gardens: Visit William Wordsworth's home from 1813 until his death in 1850 and view family portraits, presonal possessions and extensive gardens that were landscaped by the poet.
South Lakes Wild Animal Park: This open conservation zoo and Europe's top Tiger Conservation Centre at Dalton in South Cumbria is situated on the A590. Open all year and well known for the freedom the animals enjoy.
Windermere Lake Cruises: Based at Waterhead just a 10 minute walk from Rothay House. A cruise on Lake Windermere (England's largest lake) is the perfect way to enjoy the ever changing panorama and outstanding scenery.
Windermere Lake Steamboat Museum: An amazing collection of Lake Windermere's nautical heritage.
